Here's Why You Should Use Organic Body Scrubs

You’ve probably heard that the skin is your largest organ, and I’m sure you’ve got your facial skincare in check, but are you taking care of your bod? Your skin works hard to protect you from UV A and UV B rays, disease, and pathogens, as well as physical injury. It’s important to have a daily and weekly skincare routine for your body. Thankfully, with the rise in popularity of Korean beauty routines, we’re starting to learn more and adopt methods Asian women have been using for centuries to maintain their skin #GOALS. One of those methods is regular exfoliation and the use of body scrubs.

If you’re not hooked yet, and suffer from skin disorders like body acne, dry skin, dull skin, or keratosis pilaris aka “chicken skin,” adding an organic body scrub to your routine could be just what your skin is screaming for! Let’s talk about the top three benefits of regularly using an organic body scrub.

 Quickly Removes Dead Skin

Do you want dewy, healthy, glowy, soft skin? I mean who doesn’t, right? It takes

two weeks or longer for our dead skin to naturally peel off, but you can speed up the process with an organic body scrub, leaving your skin resilient, smooth, and more youthful.1 According to Dr. Suzanne Frieder, a board-certified dermatologist with Advanced Dermatology PC, “If your skin is looking dry and dull, a mild exfoliation can help.”

Regular exfoliation with a gentle body scrub can also help prevent skin disorders like body acne and ingrown hairs. Acne is caused by pores being clogged with dead skin cells and sebum (oil).  Going too long between scrubs can be the ideal breeding ground for acne-inducing bacteria. *Runs to exfoliate immediately. *

Pro Tip: For best results, be sure to gently exfoliate with an organic body scrub two to three times per week. Looking for the right option for you? Check out this vegan body scrub! It’s made with sugar which is a gentler option than salt.

 Nourishes Your Skin

It’s easy to forget that our skin is a living organ that actively absorbs particles from its environment. That means that the skincare you use is extremely impactful in improving your skin quality. A 2015 study found that using body scrubs can nourish the skin and provide the skin vitamins such as antioxidants. Antioxidants have been having a real skincare moment for a while, and babe, they’re here to stay. They “are needed in protecting the skin against UV A and UV B exposure, regenerating healthy skin cells, and maintaining healthy skin.”2 Antioxidants also help protect our skin against free radicals. You can easily go down a research rabbit-hole on free radicals, but to keep it simple: free radicals damage our cells and are linked to disease and aging. We produce them, but we can also encounter them from exposure to environmental factors like pollution, UV rays, and other chemicals. That’s why it is KEY to find clean skincare to combat them.

What are some of the best antioxidants? Vitamin C and Vitamin E.

Incorporating organic body scrubs into your weekly skincare routine can also help prep your skin to absorb your favourite moisturizer. And we all know, MOISTURE = DEWY, GLOWY SKIN!

Pro Tip: Find a body scrub packed with clean ingredients and antioxidants to give your skin a nourishment boost. If you really want to step it up a notch, follow up with your favourite moisturizer within five minutes of showering or bathing (this is the prime window before all the water moisture has evaporated from your skin). Check out this luscious combo packed with Vitamin E, Jojoba Oil, and Shea Butter!

Prevents Aging

If you’re anything like us, aging gracefully is a top priority when it comes to our skincare. Looking at you JLO. North Pacific Dermatology, PS, shares that long-term exfoliation can help increase collagen production. I’ll say it again for the ladies in the back: regularly exfoliating = more collagen!

According to Dr. Ohara Aivaz, “Collagen is what keeps our skin from sagging, giving us that plump, youthful look.” Our bodies naturally make collagen, but this production decreases with age. “Starting in our mid-20s, we slowly begin to lose collagen,” she continues. Main lesson? Get yourself a clean body scrub to help increase collagen production and prevent fine lines and wrinkles.

Pro Tip: Continue your body scrub (and moisturizer) to your tits! As Lauryn Bosstick of The Skinny Confidential says “the boobs need better PR.” If you really want to step it up a notch, try this body scrub with coffee grounds. Caffeine is not only an antioxidant (see benefits above), but it is anti-inflammatory and can increase circulation.

So Sis, please DO NOT skimp on the body scrubs and watch your skin have a true glow up to softer, more radiant, and youthful texture! Find your new fave today!
